The Gandhotsavam (Festival of Urus) began with religious fervor at Ameen Peer Dargah, popularly known as Pedda Dargah, in Kadapa on Friday, attracting thousands of devotees from across the southern states and Maharashtra.
On behalf of the State Government, Government Whip and local MLA Reddeppagari Madhavi, District Collector Sridhar Cherukuri and TDP Politburo Member and District President R. Srinivasa Reddy presented a ‘Chadar’ at the Dargah as a mark of respect.
Mr. Sridhar and Mr. Srinivasa Reddy donned the traditional brick-colored headdress while Ms. Madhavi draped a dupatta over her head. The trio carried the ‘Chadar’ in a procession from the Mahila Police Station to the Dargah, accompanied by devotees.
Later, they worked with community leaders and ensured all support for the smooth running of the week-long festival.
Kadapa Municipal Corporation (KMC) Commissioner Manoj Reddy, Revenue Divisional Director John Irwin, Jana Sena leader Sunkara Srinivas and several corporators were also present.
