A hotel room in China was left in a shocking state after a long-term guest allegedly ignored basic cleanliness standards, sparking outrage online and leaving staff stunned by the scale of the mess.
A disturbing video showing the condition of the room has gone viral on X. As reported by The Sun, the guest, described as a compulsive online gamer, had been staying at the hotel in Changchun for nearly two years. Housekeeping staff said the man rarely left his room during his long stay.
Footage reveals piles of crumpled food wrappers, empty cans and bottles and takeaway containers piled on the floor and furniture. The gaming equipment, including two chairs and a table, was barely visible under the layers of trash. The bathroom looked no better, littered with soaked toilet paper and trash strewn across the floor, toilet and sink, while many surfaces were covered in thick grime.
According to The Sun, hotel staff spent three days doing extensive cleaning and disinfection. Despite their best efforts, management said the room had sustained significant damage and would require extensive renovations before it could be reopened to guests. The hotel is known for offering extended stays to Esports players with high-speed internet, gaming PCs and specialized chairs.
Here’s how social media users reacted:
The video drew strong reactions on social media. “Even after a thorough cleaning, would you like to be the next customer in this room?” one user commented. “How come no one felt it?” asked another. “Omg I can smell it in my mouth. I couldn’t stand that bathroom,” one person wrote, while another commented: “They left him in there for 2 years. What do they expect?”
Hotel authorities also revealed the player had failed to pay for more than 10 days of his stay, with unpaid charges amounting to around £300. ₹36,000.
