In a move that could pave the way for the construction of the proposed fishing jetty at Yarada, Gajuwaka MLA and TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao on Monday led an official delegation of five departments to review the proposal and give a nod for its completion.
After nearly two decades, the coordinated participation of the five departments is seen as a decisive step to develop the livelihood of the fishing community in the region, Srinivasa Rao said. During the site inspection conducted for the proposed fishing jetty for the fishermen of Gangavaram and Dibbapalem, Mr. Srinivasa Rao engaged directly with the local fishing communities to assess their needs, fleet strength and prevailing livelihood conditions.
The delegation included senior officials of Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board, Visakhapatnam Port Authority, Gangavaram Port, Fisheries Department. Representatives from the office of the Special Deputy Collector along with fishermen from Gangavaram and Dibbapal were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rao emphasized that the construction of a fishing jetty and breakwaters at Yarada will serve as a major infrastructural intervention to stabilize and improve the livelihood of fishermen. He found that the project would not only mitigate the risks faced in deep-sea fishing, but also significantly improve safety standards. He directed the authorities concerned to conduct a comprehensive technical assessment at the earliest and prepare a detailed project report (DPR) without delay, stressing that procedural bottlenecks must not hamper implementation.
He reiterated the coalition government’s commitment to the development of coastal areas and the welfare of fishermen, noting that several neglected projects were now being revived and accelerated through inter-ministerial coordination. Such joint efforts, he said, are giving renewed momentum to development initiatives across the region.
Mr. Rao further said that the government is moving forward with a clear and structured plan to transform the Yarada region into a growth hub for the fisheries sector.
