
The Government of Telangana has received recognition from the Central Government for its innovative initiatives and proactive measures in the field of transport reforms and road safety.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, in a letter to Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, lauded new procedures such as abolition of traffic check posts, integration of Vahan and Sarathi platforms, automated driving test tracks and road safety audits.
Mr. Gadkari said that Telangana is in line with the Central Government’s vision of digital governance which has brought the Transport Ministry close to the people and appreciated how it has helped in smooth traffic management and improved road safety.
The Union Minister also appreciated the state government’s efforts in promoting sustainable mobility and conducting public awareness programs during the National Road Safety Month.
Mr. Ponnam Prabhakar told The Hindu that Telangana was a pioneer in promoting the use of e-vehicles by abolishing registration fees.
