Thousands of people on Sunday donated the last respect to Archbishop Emeritus Mar Jacob Thomucuzha, the former head of the Archdiocese Thrissur, who led the Church of devotion, anticipation and pastoral care for more than 50 years.
The funeral ceremonies began in the Archdiocesan headquarters with a classical service led by Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath, which meant the beginning of two days of prayer farewell to the beloved prelate.
At 12:15, the deadly remains were transported to the Basilica of the Virgin Mary Dolors (Puthanpally) for a public honor until 15:00 to 15:00, an unprecedented crowd in the queue saw a worshiped church leader whose life remained a source of leadership, arguing and blessing of generations.
For the last look
At 15:30 the dead remains of the Archbishop were taken from the Basilica of the Virgin Mary Dolors to the cathedral of Lourdes in the funeral procession. The Swarai bike turned into the sea of mankind when the funeral procession passed, with a body placed in a vehicle with a flower lockout.
Hundreds of priests and nuns conducted a ceremonial march, followed by thousands of believers who gathered to pay their final respect. Believers who experienced compassion for Mar Thoomkuzhyho and pastoral care during their lives lined the streets in respect and grief.
In the gesture reflecting his lifelong commitment to the poor Archdiocese, she raised a meaningful challenge: instead of flower dowry and bouquets, the mourning urges to bring saris or clothes. These offers will later be divided among disadvantaged women and families who will continue a tradition that the late Archbishop himself weighed and promoted during his service.
Father
“The life of Father Thoomkuzhy was defined by the care of that and the spirit of hugs combined with a vision that led society confidently into modernity. He built a wide circle of friendship, traveled around the world, and never hesitate to drive at every mission station.
People continued to flow into the cathedral Lourdes late into the night to offer their last honors. The public tribute will continue on Monday until 9:30. Then the second phase of the funeral ceremonies will be led by Cardinal Mar George Alencherry and the third phase of the chief archbishop Mar Raphaela Thattil of the Syro-Malabar Church.
At 13:00, official honors will be granted in the courtyard of the cathedral. The mortal remains will then be transported to the Church of Sts. Joseph, Devagiri, Kozhikode, for a public honor and later to the home of the love of the general general sister of Christ Dasi in Kottooli, Kozhikode. The last phase of the funeral ceremonies will be held there on Monday evening.
