FSSAI licenses suspended to four fast-casual shops in Hyderabad for food safety violations

Four shadowy fast-food shops in Hyderabad have had their licenses suspended by FSSAI and have been ordered to cease business operations immediately following inspections by the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) on Wednesday.

During inspections, TG SAFE staff discovered expired and damaged food products, unsanitary premises, pest infestations and other food safety violations.

The action followed inspections of 16 dark shops run by Kwickbox Retail Private Limited, which runs Swiggy Instamart dark shops, Instakart Services Private Limited, which runs Flipkart dark shops, Zepto Private Limited and Dropx Logistics in Hyderabad.

The four outlets whose licenses have been suspended include a Swiggy Instamart store in Petbasheerbad, a Flipkart store near Charminar, a Zepto store in Koti and another Swiggy Instamart store in Saidabad.

Sanitation violations found at these locations include unsanitary premises, damaged and expired food products, improper handling and storage of food, spoiled vegetables with mold infestation, violation of FSSAI regulations on labeling and display, cockroach and pest infestation and improper temperature maintenance in cold stores.

TG SAFE officials also picked up 15 food samples for suspected adulteration. Three establishments will be issued with improvement notices, while five others will be issued with demerit notices for violations found during the inspection. Facilities issued with improvement notices will be re-inspected to verify compliance, while further action, including penalties, will be initiated against those issued show-cause notices, officials said.
