US President Donald Trump softened his attitude to India on Tuesday and hit a positive commercial remark just a few days after warning that the new Delhi and Moscow “lost” to China.
In Social Truth, Trump wrote: “I am pleased to announce that India and the United States continue to negotiate on business obstacles between our two nations. I look forward to an interview with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modim, in the coming weeks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied to X and called India and the US “close friends and natural partners”. He said both countries are working to close the discussion first. “We will work together to ensure a brighter and prosperous future for both of our people,” he added.
Trump’s praise for modi
This is the second time in the last days that Trump has spoken positive about India. At a press conference in the White House last week he said: “I will always be friends with Prime Minister Modim. He is a great prime minister. India and the United States have a special relationship. There is nothing to worry about. We have occasionally only moments.”
Modi said he “deeply appreciates and fully returns” Trump’s positive evaluation of bilateral ties calls a partnership “very positive and view”.
Tariffs and oil friction
However, the praise was alleviated by a sharp criticism. Trump repeatedly expressed frustration in the decision of India to buy discounted Russian oil in the middle of the Ukrainian War.
“I was very disappointed that India would buy so much oil … from Russia, and I let them know. We put a very large tariff in India, 50 % tariff, very high tariff,” he said.
In recent months, tariffs have doubled to 50%, including 25% of the additional obligation associated with oil imports. India described this step as “unfair, unjustified and unduly”.
Trump also accused India of the “war gain” by refining and exporting Russian oil, even went so far that he called the Ukrainian conflict “Modi’s war”.

After the summit for cooperation in Shanghai (SCO), between August 31 and 1, September in the Chinese port city of Tianjin, where PM Modi was photographed with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump published: “It looks like we lost India and Russia.
Note “Dead Economy”
At the peak of the tension at the beginning of this year, Trump rejected India as a “dead economy”, and his business advisor Peter Navarro accused the new Delhi of using discounted Russian oil. Trump also described Indian tariffs as “among the highest in the world” and “the most strenuous and most unfavorable”.
