Since April 7, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs abolished 40 people associated with Northeastern, of which 18 contemporary students and 22 graduates, reported The Huntington News and quoted the northeastern vice president of Renata Nyul communication.
“Northeastern undertakes to help our international students, faculties and employees – and our entire global community – remain informed and safely at a time of deep uncertainty,” reads the “navigation in the new political landscape” in the northeast.
However, it was not clear why the visa was canceled.
The federal government did not announce the universities of changing the status of its students. Rather, they learned about it when the records were reviewed.
“These decisions are happening in a vacuum, without communicating with a school or a student, and (universities) are trying to work back on why to find out why,” said Rob McCarron, President of the Association of Independent Universities in Massachusetts, according to WBUR report.
The official number of visa completed is also not known.
According to the media reports, three students and two recent graduates were canceled at the University of Harvard. Fifteen students on the five campuses of the University of Massachusetts had their visas canceled.
Why are the visas canceled?
Development comes in the middle of the end of the Trump administration administration on citizens outside the US, who participates in political defense in the premises.
“The United States has zero tolerance towards non-citizens who violate US laws. Those who violate law, including students, may face the rejection of visas, appeal of visas and/or deportation,” the ministry spokesman said in a statement by Boston Globe.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to cooperate closely with the Ministry of Internal Security in the administration and enforcement of US visas and immigration laws.”
Last month, Trump’s administration said 300 student visas were canceled.
While some students were said to return to their native country for pro-Palestinian activism or crime, others had their visas canceled due to traffic violation.
According to the Ministry of Internal Security, most foreign students are on the F-1 visa. If their visas are completed, immigration officials can verify that the student has left the country.
Students whose visas are canceled due to violations do not receive a deadline to stay in the US.
