
As many as 50 companies led by next-generation promoters saw a nearly sevenfold increase in market capitalization between 2020 and 2026 ₹30.9 trillion, according to ASK Private Wealth’s Hurun India 50 Successors 2026 ranking, which analyzed the performance of all listed family businesses.
This growth outperformed the Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex indices, which rose 3 times and 2.8 times respectively during the same period. These 50 companies had a combined market capitalization ₹4.6 trillion as of March 31, 2020.
ASK Private Wealth and Hurun India on Wednesday released the first edition of the 2026 ASK Private Wealth Hurun India Successors 50. The ranking includes 63 next-generation leaders from 50 listed family companies based on market capitalization growth between March 2020 and March 2026.
Jupiter Wagons tops the list
Jupiter Wagons, led by second-generation deputy managing director Vikash Lohia, topped the chart with a 152.8-fold increase in company value. Tilaknagar Industries’ Amit Dahanukar, a 4th generation promoter, and Jindal Stainless’s Abhyuday Jindal, a 3rd generation promoter, shared the second spot, each achieving 52.5 times growth in company value.

In terms of absolute value addition, Karan Adani of Adani Ports & SEZ leads the way ₹2,67,525 crore in value creation, followed by Aalok Shanghvi and Vidhi Shanghvi of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries in ₹1,72,135 crore and Priya Agarwal Hebbar of Hindustan Zinc v ₹1,56,991 million crowns.
To qualify, candidates had to be 50 years of age or younger, hold an active executive role such as chief executive officer, chief executive officer or chairman of the board, and represent the second or later generation of a founding family with a controlling interest in a listed company with a market capitalization of at least ₹5,000 million crowns.
The report also includes a performance index that ranks companies based on financial metrics, operational efficiency, business development, governance and ESG disclosure. Arun Alagappan of Coromandel International tops this index with a score of 7.0, combining 3.9x growth with 23% YoY and ₹Revenues 24,444 million. Ajanta Pharma’s Rajesh Agrawal (6.9) is followed by a three-way tie between KPR Mill’s CR Anandakrishnan, Triveni Turbine’s Nikhil Sawhney and Hindustan Zinc’s Priya Agarwal Hebbar, both scoring 6.8.
The auto and automotive sector is most represented with nine companies, followed by healthcare and industrial products with six each. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries ranks as the largest company on the list by market capitalization ₹4,22,007 million crowns. Despite the digital boom, 74% of this list is manufacturing companies making tangible goods, suggesting that India’s big old businesses have roots in manufacturing.
Mumbai and New Delhi host six headquarters of these companies, followed by Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata with five each. Maharashtra leads with nine companies and total market capitalization ₹7.74 million crores.
The list includes 10 women in nine companies
There are also 10 women in nine companies on the list. These businesses have a combined market capitalization ₹8.16 lakh crores. Rama Kirloskar of Kirloskar Brothers leads the women’s chart with 17.7 times growth. Priya Agarwal Hebbar-led Hindustan Zinc posted the highest return on equity (ROCE) at 63%.
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries generates nearly 75% of its revenue from exports, making it the most globally integrated company on the list.

The average age of the successors is 42, with 19 of the 63 under 40. The youngest is Chaitanya Jalan of Ramkrishna Forgings aged 28. Second-generation leaders make up 46% of the list, while third-generation leaders make up 32%. Seven companies are more than a century old, with Muthoot Finance, established in 1887, being the oldest.
The University of Pennsylvania is the most common undergraduate alma mater with seven graduates, while Harvard Business School leads at the graduate level with eight.
