The Karnataka Cabinet decides on the time of the caste, which will be carried out in the state within 90 days, said the Deputy Minister of DK Shivakumar on 10 June and promises a “transparent” process that protects the interests of all parts of society.
Shivakumar spoke after the party announced its decision on the caste after telling after a meeting at a high level with the President of the Mallikarjun Kharge congress and the leader of the party Rahul Gandhi.

The main Minister Siddaramaiah was also among the leaders present during the negotiations. “Several ministers and communities have expressed concern and keeps in mind that the party leadership has decided to re -accommodate kast in the state,” Siddaramaaiah told reporters.
The recalculation could be either a complete re -evaluation or to add existing data using records maintained at gram Panchayat and Ward. It remains unclear whether the survey that Congress approved would mean a completely new survey or partial survey.
But why re -ringing?
Karnataka’s socio -economic and educational survey was first announced in 2015 during the first term of Siddaramaiah as the main minister.
A survey report that is allegedly standing £165 Crore, was prepared by the Commission for the Karnataka Return Classes under the then Chairman of the HK Kantharaj. He was presented to the main minister in February 2024, soon after Siddaramaiaha returned to power for the second term, the current chairman of KJ Jayaprakash Hegde.
This report recommended a 51 % reservation for other reverse classes (OVC) and argued that the CVC contains 70 % (4.16 crore) the Karnataka population. The report triggered a controversy between two dominant castes – Vokkaligas and Lingayats – who claimed that their communities were underestimated.
Vokkaliga and Lingayats subordinate?
Vokkaliga and Lingayat demanded a new survey after their population was somewhat over 10 percent and almost 11 %. The way they said was much less than estimated. Vokkaligas (Kasta, to which Shivakumar belongs) and Lingayats are currently enjoying a reservation in categories III A and III B quota of citizens in the state.
Classes outside Kuruba also raised objections to recommendations that Kurubas-Community, into which CM Siddaramaiah belongs to-move “more back” to the “most important” category.

The opposition is looking for an apology from cm
The side of the opposition Bharatiya Janata (BJP) in Karnataka criticized the CM Siddaramaiah for his “usual ruthlessness” and required an apology.
The Secretary General of Karnataka BJP Sunil Kumar Karkala, who came to X, claimed that the main command of the congress “eliminated the report on the census prepared by the state government”. The report, he said, “he was even scheduled for approval at the Cabinet meeting in Nandi Hills.
BJP demanded an apology from the CM and the Congress Party for creating “dissatisfaction between communities”. Saffron party claimed that cm sought to report the cabinet accepted.
BJP also claimed that the state government is now increasing the census to cover its shortcomings in connection with the recent bumper near the Chinnaswama stadium in Bengalur in which 11 people were killed
“Whenever the state government led by Congress faces a crisis because of its administrative failures, it raises the problem of the census. This is not beyond social concerns, but rather a constant trick that distracts the attention of the population of the state,” said BJP state president from Vijayendra.
In accordance with the main command instructions, the Karnataka government decided to complete the survey and submit the report within 90 days.
No one will be excluded: Dy cm
Shivakumar, who is also the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), stressed that the census would be transparent in the involvement of all communities.
