AP/PTI The French Open will honor the tennis legend Rafael Nadal with a special ceremony honoring Philippe-Chamrier 25, May, the day of the tournament. The fourteen -time champion, which announced his retirement in November, will be celebrated for his remarkable legacy in Roland Garros, where he already has a statue and will be introduced in the tournament museum.
French Open director Amélie Mauresmo confirmed the plans for an exceptional tribute to the 22-time Grand Slam Champion.
“Rafa has left his brand on the history of the French Open in many ways, so his honor will be held in his honor. We want the honor to be strange, exceptional. We want it to be a surprise for everyone,” Mauresmo said.
Mauresmo revealed that the organizers originally planned to honor last year, but Nadal refused at that time.

“Rafael Nadal and Roland Garros are inseparable. We have a strong history together. Amélie and I went to see him recently because we wanted to do something important for him. We still had some frustration from last year,” Morheton said.
The organizers of the tournament also announced plans to build on the success of the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 by creating a zone of fans on the Place de la Concorde. The venue will present giant screens showing matches and will be free for up to 5,000 fans.
“Last summer we saw an incredible atmosphere in Paris. We are planning to surf this success,” Mauresmo added.
