Big names on Friday continued to promote their dominance in Roland Garros, with the world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, the Italian Lorenzo Mousetti and the Chinese Zheng Qinwen reserved his seats in the fourth round of the French Open.
Sabalenka is released around Danilovice
Aryna Sabalenka expanded her finished form with a commanding 6-2, 6-3 victories over the Serbian Olga Danilovic in the Philippe Chatrier court. The highest seed took control soon and raced for 5-0 leadership in the first set before it closed it with its trademark and accuracy.
Danilovic showed flashes of the fight and once in each set broke the Sabalenek, but Belarus remained unknown and packed the competition with 17 winners and five breaks serving. Sabalenka has now dropped only 10 games in the first four games in Paris this year.
“I’m very happy with the victory,” Sabalenka said. “Olga is a warrior and I was expecting a battle. She played as a Top-10 player and I think he’ll be there very soon.”
Sabalenka is facing the next 16. Semen Amanda Anisimova, former semi-finalist in Paris, who defeated Clarra Tauson 7-6 (4), 6-4 in her third round.
French open day 6 live updates
The 26-year-old remains the only player who has reached the fourth round at the Australian Open and the French Open in each of the last three years. It is also guaranteed to retain rating No. 1 after the tournament. With titles in Brisbane, Miami and Madrid as early as 2025, and this year the six finals are Sabalenek in the middle of the season reminiscent of Serena Williams in her first class.
Mousetti fights to 4. Round
Lorenzo Mousetti exceeded the slow start and determined opponent to reach the fourth round with 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 victories over Argentina Mariano Navone in court Suzanne -bern.
Italian found himself in trouble. But the Olympic bronze medalist kicked deep and found his rhythm with the buckhand rupture and, using his heavy forehand, attached Navone behind the baseline. From there he turned the match in a commanding way.
Mouseti, 23, reduced his unforced errors from 19 in the first set to 31 combined in the next three, showing maturity and control when he pulled out in hot Paris conditions.
“Today, in terms of conditions since the last two matches, it seemed completely different, the ball jumped not so high (before) and today I was a little surprised,” said Musetti.
“Then I started to feel better in court and improved my game. I put some command in my tennis chaos. My game is diverse, so it’s not easy for me to make a decision.
“It must be pasta or pizza … jokes aside, we are a little lucky because we live the best years of our tennis, men and women when we are part of this group last year, was amazing; we won Billie Jean King Cup and Davis Cup.
The victory corresponds to the best result of Mouseti in Roland Garros, after he reached the fourth round in 2021.
Zheng ends MBOKO’S DREAM RUN
Chinese Zheng Qinwen booked his place in the fourth round with a victory of 6-3, 6-4 over 18-year-old Victoria Mboko. The Olympic Golden Medalist faced a lively effort from a qualification that did not fall into Friday before the fifth matches.
MBoko held its own from the base line and even in the second set held the lead 0-40, but Zheng’s Pois changed at pressure moments. She transferred all four points of breaks she earned and saved six out of eight to her own portion.
