The proposal previously carried out by the Kozhikode Municipal Police to identify free income along the main city roads for trouble -free public parking, lost couple due to “poor coordination between government authorities”. This initiative, which was once described as the most practical and most beautiful way to solve the shrinking parking space, remains a pipeline, even though the city lacks a standard multi -level parking device.
The police officer, who previously worked on the reworking of the city’s parking spaces, said that the lack of coordination between the district administration and the various government authorities stopped fast implementation of the project. “There was even a list of probable sites that could be converted into public parking spaces without major expenditure. Many remain idle without developmental activities. It is a tedious technical agency that derails available projects like these,” he said. The officer added that there is still room to revive the proposal as a permanent solution for the traffic torment of the city.
Meanwhile, the officials of the Income Department who discussed the project with the police said that complicated civil disputes about some previously identified real estate became the main obstacle. They said that unresolved cases made it difficult to allocate soil for alternative use.
“Accessibility is a key factor in determining public parking space. Cooperation of local administrators will also be needed to protect and manage these facilities. A detailed travel map is necessary for success,” said the official of the Public Work Department, who participated in discussions at the district level. He added that both the police and the local administrators had a key role in creating a plan by reality.
Deputy Police Commissioner ARUN K. Pavathran said that the police have already launched measures to identify potential parking spaces in cooperation with land owners, government and private owners. “We have been able to identify more than 30 such real estate in the city to meet future needs. However, ensuring income land remains a problem due to waiting trials in civil dispute. Mr. Pavathran added that the police have accepted this matter as a priority and that the subsequent measures will continue on the basis of discussions with the parties involved.
