Francesco Farioli announced his departure from Ajax Amsterdam after the dramatic end of the Eredivisie 2024-25 season, in which the club gave up the nine-point lead to omit what would be a record 37.
PSV Eindhoven grabbed the championship on the last day and after overturning the nine -point deficit in the final weeks of the campaign completed one point ahead.
Farioli was appointed last summer on a three -year agreement after the French side of OGC Nice came from the French side. The 36-year-old man became the first Italian club manager and the first non-reason in the role since 1998, which was brought to revive Ajax after disappointment in fifth place in 2023-24.
Ajax seemed to swim to the title and held a commanding lead on the top of up to 19 April. But many bad results allowed PSV to close the gap and eventually overtake them. Despite Ajax’s victory 2-0 over FC Twente on the last day, the 3-1 PSV victory in Sparta Rotterdam closed the Back-to-Back titles for the Eindhoven Party.
Farioli decided to leave Ajax after careful consideration. The head coach informed the club’s council about his decision.

In a statement published after the Farioli match, he confirmed his decision to resign and quote differences in the vision with the club hierarchy.
“Managing and I have the same goals for the future of Ajax, but we have different visions and time frames about how we should work and work to achieve these goals,” he said. “Given these differences in the principles and foundations of the project, I feel deep in my heart that it is the best moment to split.”
Farioli, visibly emotional after the match, said that Ajax was a privilege and pointed out his role in transforming the club’s sports culture during the transition year.
Technical Director Ajax Alex Kroes called the departure of the coach “incredibly disappointment”, especially after the team achieved the qualification of the Champions League.
“Francesco played a key role in strengthening high -performance culture in Ajax, for which we are extremely grateful,” Kroes said. “This summer has already been set up as a challenging transmission window and now it has happened more. It is up to us to ensure that a strong new coaching team is introduced at a time when the pre -season season starts.”
