France will repeat the need for UNSC reform, which will provide India’s permanent chair at the high table, the embassy also said.
“Today, France assumes the monthly Presidency of the Security Council @un. He will manage key discussions about global peace and security focusing on humanitarian impacts. To reflect today’s world, France repeats the need for #unSc reform, which also gives India permanent chair,” he said.
Modi-Macron Meeting
Comments of the French Embassy come after PM Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron met in February this year.
Both leaders emphasized the urgent need to reform the UN Security Council and agreed to close coordination on versatile forums, including UNSC affairs.
During the meeting, they conducted extensive discussions on long -term global challenges and contemporary international development and agreed to deepen their global and regional engagement, even through multilateral initiatives and institutions.
Last year, Macron expressed French support for the integration of India as a permanent Unsc member at the 79th UN Macron meeting (UNGA) last year.
He said, “As long as we have a security advice that is blocked, I would say that according to the appropriate interests of each of them it will be difficult to move forward. There is a better system, I do not think so.”
“So let’s simply make the UN more efficient, especially because it is more representative. Therefore, France and I will say it again, supporting the extension of the security council. Germany, Japan, India and Brazil should be permanent members, along with both countries intended for Africa to represent it,” he said.
