Four police officers, including Åland Police Inspector Sharanabasappa Kodl, have been suspended for alleged misconduct in the handling of a case involving the illegal seizure and subsequent release of a vehicle carrying rice meant for the Public Distribution System (PDS).

The other suspended personnel are head constables Hanumanth and Mallikarjun and constable Saibanna, attached to Aland police station.

The action follows allegations that a vehicle seized by police late on the night of September 28, based on information received through the 112 emergency line, was released without registering a case or taking further legal action.

The vehicle was reportedly brought to the police station after it was found to be transporting PDS rice stock allegedly without permission. However, there have been allegations that the vehicle was released after a cash transaction. There were also allegations that a deal involving roughly ₹100,000 was made for his release. The allegations prompted the police department to launch an internal investigation.

The investigation is said to have found lapses in the performance of the service and irregularities in the handling of the case. On the basis of the established facts, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against the inspector and three other workers.
