Four members of a family died of suffocation after inhaling smoke from a fire at their home in Godhra city, police said on Friday (Nov 21, 2025).
The incident took place in Gangotri Nagar between the night of Thursday (November 20, 2025) and Friday (November 21, 2025). The victims were jeweler Kamal Doshi (50), his wife Devalben (45) and their sons Dev (24) and Raj (22). They died in their sleep, A divisional police station officer RM Vasaiya said.
Doshi’s family was preparing for the engagement of one of his sons and they were due to leave for Vapi on Friday morning.
“Prima facie the wooden furniture in the house caught fire due to a short circuit in the split air conditioner on the ground floor. Four died of smoke suffocation,” Vasaiya said.
One of the dead also suffered burns, he said.
The bodies were discovered by firemen when they rushed to the spot after receiving a report of the fire.
“They had to force their way into the house and found four persons lying unconscious. They were taken to a civil hospital where doctors declared them brought dead,” the official said.
