A 34-year-old woman from Kurnool town was arrested for allegedly injecting the blood of an HIV-positive female doctor here on January 9. Three accomplices were also arrested.
According to Kurnool Deputy Superintendent of Police J. Babu Prasad, the main accused, Beechupally Boya Vasundhara alias Vedavati of Kurnool town, was a childhood friend of the victim’s husband. Their friendship ended after he married the victim.
However, Vasundhara harbored a grudge against the victim and hatched a plan to harm her after the couple had a child. An M.Sc.Nursing student approached K. Jyothi, a nurse at a private hospital in Adoni, seeking her help in implementing the plan. She later managed to get the blood of an HIV-infected person who is being treated at the Government General Hospital here.
Police said Vasundhara stalked the victim for almost a year and watched her movements in preparation for committing the crime.
Around 2:30 pm on January 9, two persons on a two-wheeler deliberately hit the victim near Vinayaka Ghat on KC Canal Road while she was riding her two-wheeler home for lunch. She was then approached by two women offering to help. As the victims were being helped into the autorickshaw, one of them pierced her arm with a syringe. When the victim raised the alarm, the pair fled.
The victim’s husband, who is also a doctor, later filed a complaint with the City Police III, expressing concern over the contents of the injection given to his wife.
During the investigation, the police officers checked the footage from the cameras and identified the accused. All the four accused — Vasundhara, Jyothi and two others — were arrested on Saturday, January 24, according to the police.
The GGH ordered an internal investigation to find out who helped Vasundhar procure the HIV-infected blood.
Tests are underway to determine the victim’s medical condition.
