Earthworks for the Upparapalli road took place here on Wednesday (March 18). The 1.1 km road will be constructed at a cost of ₹9 crore.
The road connects the SPMVV campus with the Ramanujapalli check post on the Chennai–Bengaluru National Highway and is regularly used by VVIPs arriving in the city from the airport.
Chandragiri MLA Pulivarthi Venkata Mani Prasad (Nani) and Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) Chairman C. Divakar Reddy jointly performed a ‘Bhumi Puja’ for the work that provides an easy and hassle-free exit for Tirumala devotees proceeding towards Vellore and Bengaluru routes.
“The widening of the road is part of the development of Tirupati city as per international standards,” said Mr. Divakar Reddy. The TUDA-financed project envisages widening the road, laying sidewalks, dividers and central lighting.
Mr. Nani said the government would focus on the development of roads and highways, which he claimed were severely neglected during the former YSRCP regime.
TUDA Secretary NV Sreekanth Babu, Chief Engineer K. Ravindraiah and Planning Officer P. Devi Kumari were present.
