Former chairman of the Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TSHRC) Justice G. Chandraiah (72) died in Hyderabad on Saturday while undergoing treatment. The last rites will be performed on Sunday at the Mahaprasthanam in Film Nagar.
Born in Timmapur village of Jannaram mandal in the erstwhile Adilabad Gunda Beerpuri and Marthamma district, Justice Chandraiah rose from a family background of a farmer to a distinguished career in law and public service. He did his schooling in Timmapur and Tapalapur before pursuing higher education at Government Arts and Science College, Adilabad. He later earned an LL.B., MA (Political Science) and LL.M. degrees from Osmania University (OU).
He enrolled as an advocate in the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council on 6 November 1980. He later served as government pleader for two terms in 1991-95 and 1999-2002. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on 26 May 2005 and became a permanent judge on 20 February 2006. He retired on 9 May 2016 after attaining superannuation.
