Former prime minister and JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda has reiterated that he will continue to strengthen the party despite his advanced age. “We will hold a much bigger rally in Hassan than what the ruling Congress did,” he said.
Addressing the press at Haradanahalli in Holenarasipur taluk, his native place, on December 29, Mr. Deve Gowda said he would fight for the party till his last breath. “Congress has held rallies in Hassan twice in the last two years. Why are they so interested in Hassan?” he asked adding, “Congress has done all tricks to tarnish Revanna’s image. But they have failed. His contributions to Hassan are significant and we will publish the list of development works he has initiated in Hassan at the right time.”
Commenting on the state of the Congress in the country, the former prime minister said the party has power in only three states. “However, BJP holds power in 14 states. We are with NDA,” he said.
Mr. Deve Gowda offered his prayers at the Deveshwara temple in the village. His son HD Revanna and other family members accompanied him.
Workers meeting
Later, Mr. Deve Gowda met party workers in Hassan. He told them that his party, a regional party, remained strong in the state because of the support of the people. “People of Hassan played a significant role in my political career which started in 1962. Party workers and people of the district prayed for my health,” the JD(S) leader remarked.
He said the party will hold a rally in Hassan on January 24, 2026 and more than two million people are expected to attend. Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy and other party leaders will also attend, he said.
The meeting was attended by former ministers HD Revanna, A. Manju, HK Kumaraswamy, SR Mahesh, legislators CN Balakrishna, Suraj Revanna, HP Swaroop and others.
