Sixty former historians were involved in public service activities, marking a shift away from traditional surveillance methods in the latest initiative by the Račakonda police. Instead of confining them to their homes, the program brings selected individuals into mainstream public life through social services.
Those who showed signs of transformation were assigned responsibilities in traffic management at major intersections across the commissionerate, including Uppal, LB Nagar and ECIL. Working with volunteers and traffic staff, they help regulate the flow of vehicles and guide commuters during rush hour.
As part of the initiative, 20 well-behaved ex-historians each from Uppal, LB Nagar and Kushaiguda police stations volunteered to support the traffic regulation and public awareness efforts launched by the Kushaiguda police.
“I remember the mistakes I made in the past and I am proud to have the opportunity to serve people now,” said one participant, describing the experience as the beginning of a new life after years of social rejection.
The Rachakonda police intend to expand the program to include more monitored individuals who are willing to reform.
