Former Hindu scribe MV Subrahmanyam no more

Former senior assistant editor of The Hindu MV Subrahmanyam died on Monday afternoon after suffering a cardiac arrest in Hyderabad.

65-year-old Subrahmanyam complained of chest pain after lunch and was taken to a local hospital in Malkajgiri. During treatment, according to family members, he suffered a heart attack and breathed his last. He is survived by daughter Meenakshi while wife Krishnaveni and only son Harish predeceased him.

Late Subrahmanyam worked at Newstime before joining The Hindu in 1994. He had a very long stint in Kadapa district before being transferred to Kurnool in 2018. He retired from Kurnool in 2021 and moved to Hyderabad.

In more than three decades of his journalistic career, Mr. Subrahmanyam developed a very good rapport with politicians from Kadapa district, especially former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and other senior Congress leaders. After moving to Kurnool, he also maintained the same relations with politicians and bureaucrats.

He was active in journalists’ union activities after serving as president of the Kadapa unit of the Andhra Pradesh Union of Journalists. Journalists’ unions have condoled the untimely death of Mr. Subrahmanyam.

His last rites are expected to be performed on Tuesday after his brother’s arrival.
