Underscoring the need for further Indian military action in Pakistan, former special prosecutor in the 26/11 terror attack case and sitting Rajya Sabha member Ujjwal Nikam on Monday expressed dismay at Pakistan’s inaction on evidence given by prime accused David Headley. “We need another Operation Sindoor for Pakistan to crack down on its terror modules. We need another Operation Sindoor to show the world that we are not a banana republic and we will not tolerate terror,” he told The Hindu on Tuesday.
“We asked them to take note of the evidence against the key conspirators of the 26/11 terror attacks, including ‘Bade Chacha’ Hafiz Saeed, other Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives, and most importantly, key ISI operatives from Pakistan. We also produced email correspondences. Despite the necessary evidence provided to Pakistan, as we got this operation within days, they did not do so for several days. someone will try to play with our country’s sovereignty, Op Sindoor will take place in a different form. We are not a banana country. Even though we have provided them with extensive evidence, if they are not going to take action against the perpetrators of the operation.
Speaking about the significance of David Headley’s testimony in 2016, he said it was essential to unravel the larger conspiracy behind the terror attack.
David Headley, the key conspirator in the 11/26 terrorist attacks that killed over 175 people and injured over 300, is currently in a US prison and protected from deportation under a plea agreement.
“When it became clear that we could not get him to India, I decided to use David Headley as one of the prosecution witnesses. In view of the plea agreement, I decided that the best policy to catch thieves was to use thieves. We investigated David Headley in a court in Bombay. He gave sensitive information and entrusted the role of Hafiz-LakhReman to form the eye of Hafish-Lakh-Saeh and Pakistan. by keeping them under house arrest, but that too has not been revealed in his deposition since then,” he said.
