Forest Minister Eshwar B Khandre has sought a report from the Karnataka forest department seeking details of alleged visits by senior state officials and veterinarians to Vantara, a 3,500-acre private zoo run by billionaire Anant Ambani in Gujarat.
In a note dated 23 March 2026, the minister asked for details of the officials who made the visit, the reason for their visit and who gave them permission to do so. The ministry has been asked to submit a detailed report within seven days and issue a circular requiring anyone visiting private zoos or wildlife rehabilitation centers to obtain permission from the forest minister.
