
Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) nabbed a Narsapuram forest section officer for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from a sawmill owner in West Godavari district on Tuesday.
Sadu Forest Officer Suresh Kumar allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 from the complainant to prevent the seizure of his saw.
The appellant, who was running a sawmill in Pennada village of West Godavari district, cut teak wood brought by a farmer from his own field. When the farmer was transporting teak wood, Bhimavaram forest department officials seized the wood along with the four-wheeler. Later, the forest authorities stopped the operation of the sawmill.
The accused demanded ₹5 lakh from the complainant to avoid seizure and resume operations at the sawmill.
ACB officials caught Sada Suresh Kumar while he was accepting bribe at his residence on Tuesday. The accused has been arrested and will be produced before the ACB court in Rajahmahendravaram, ACB officials said in a press release.
