A forensic report has acquitted Shine Malayalam actor Tom Chacko, who was a major setback for the Kochi city police, of drug consumption charges in connection with a case registered in April 2025.
The case was registered after Mr. Chacko created quite a ruckus by fleeing from a hotel in Kaloor, under Ernakulam Town North police station, during a raid by the District Anti-Drug Special Action Unit (DANSAF) of the city police on the night of April 16. CCTV footage later collected by the police showed Mr Chacko running from the hotel to another room and jumping through the window to the other window. floor, crossing the swimming pool area, up the stairs to the reception and escaping like a rider on a two-wheeler.
“We did not find any direct evidence from the room to prove that the actor had consumed drugs, nor was he booked for possession. However, considering the panicked manner of his escape from the hotel, we have decided to send his bodily fluids for forensic examination to check whether he has consumed drugs. Now that the results are negative, there is no reason to pursue the case further,” city police sources said.
The DANSAF team reportedly arrived at the hotel following a tip-off about a drug trafficker. They detected Mr. Chack’s presence through the hotel register and knocked on his door.
During an hour-long interrogation after the incident, Mr Chacko told police he fled “in fear of his life” because he mistook plainclothes officers for goons. However, the police were not convinced and questioned why he had not contacted them if he had. His dramatic escape also coincided with allegations of drug abuse on film sets.
The police claimed that the case was registered as the interrogation of the actor prima facie revealed matters requiring investigation and his absconding during the raid appeared suspicious. Ahmmed Murshad (25) of Malappuram, who was allegedly found in Mr. Chack’s hotel room, was also booked.
They were charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 238 (causing evidence of a crime to disappear) and the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Sections 27(b) (consumption of any narcotic or psychotropic substance) and 29 (punishment for inducement and criminal conspiracy).
