Foreigner held for assaulting staff at FRRO facility
The Madanayakanahalli police arrested a foreign national for allegedly assaulting staff at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) detention facility at Sondekoppa village on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The accused has been identified as Kelvin James, who is housed at the Foreigners Detention/Restraint Center (FRC) and is facing several charges related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and assault.
Earlier this week, Kelvin allegedly entered a staff office and assaulted a sleeping member of staff. The following day, he allegedly assaulted another employee, prompting the facility responsible to file a complaint.
A case investigator told The Hindu that Kelvin’s wife and daughter are also lodged in a detention center elsewhere. He was reportedly angry about his prolonged detention at the center.
However, this is not the first time Kelvin has allegedly assaulted an employee. On April 29, he allegedly brandished a knife and threatened employees on duty with abusive language. He allegedly tried to assault staff. Other personnel, including an assistant sub-inspector and other staff, rushed to the spot and managed to disarm him after a struggle.
According to the police, the accused has a history of such behavior. In January of this year, the staff allegedly attacked the manhole with stones and lids.
