The collector of the district of Eluru K. Vetri Selvi ordered officials to speed up the process of obtaining land for rehabilitation and relocation (R&R) of the Polavaram project.
At the inspection meeting, which took place here on Tuesday, the collector said that in the district of Eluru, another 5,000 acres of land for the R&R package, which includes land compensation, the construction of R&R colonies and other facilities for balanced family projects, are required. Up to 800 hectares have already been identified in Buttayagud and Jeelugumilli Mandals, she said, and ordered that the remaining 4,200 hectares would be gained at 500 acres a week, which should be completed by August 15.
Mrs. Vetri Selvi emphasized that only non -shortened land and trunks should be identified for the acquisition, or other interventions should not exist. Once the plots are identified, Gram Sabhas (meetings of villages) must be carried out in the relevant villages. The collector ordered that RDOS and DSP should participate in farmers and ensure consultations at the level of villages in their presence.
