From flower decoration competitions and installations to chrysanthemum festival, the much awaited festival of flowers and lights ‘Vasantholsavam’ is all set to offer a visual treat to the people from 24th December to 4th January 2026 in Thiruvananthapuram.
Organized by the Department of Tourism and the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) at Kanakakkunnu grounds in the city, this edition of Vasantholsavam is curated by the Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute, Palode. The flower festival along with the light festival illuminating the city streets and monuments during the Christmas and New Year season will be a double delight for the visitors.
The tourism department has allocated a budget of ₹1.18 crore for the light show. The flower festival will have competitions in about 70 categories, including those related to flower display, ornamental plants, orchids, anthuriums, cacti and adeniums. State and private institutions, kindergartens and individuals can participate in the competition. First, second and third prize winners will be separated, except for the overall winner in each category.
More than 25,000 plants will be on display at the festival, in addition to approximately 15,000 plants in the competition category. There will also be an exhibition of flower decorations and a competition in this category for adults and students. Visitors can also buy flowers and plants at nursery stands. The ticket price for adults is 50 CZK, for children 30 CZK.
