Floods and landslides are affecting several districts of Arunachal

More than 94,200 people in Arunachal Pradesh in 333 villages in 26 districts have been affected by fresh bouts of heavy rains that have triggered floods and landslides.

The monsoon rampage has damaged infrastructure and crops in these districts, the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) said in its latest report.

According to SEOC, the worst affected district was Upper Siang, followed by Siang and Kra-Daadi. Upper Siang recorded landslides in 16 places.

Flooding, landslides and rockfalls were reported from Changlang, Upper Subansiri and East Kameng districts during the last 24 hours.

Officials said rain-induced disasters have claimed four lives in the state so far. While three people died in a flash flood that hit a hydropower project colony in Keyi Panyor on June 24, 2026, a landslide killed another four days later in Sarti village of Anjaw district.

Officials also said army and air force personnel deployed helicopters to rescue stranded people or provide aid. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force and Armed Forces conduct rescue and relief operations.

The SEOC update said crops on 334.2 hectares of agricultural land were damaged, including 185.5 hectares in horticulture and 148.7 hectares in agriculture, while about 1,010 hectares of forest area was affected.

The report also noted extensive damage to 131 roads, 19 bridges, 21 culverts, 191 water systems, 58 government buildings, 21 power lines, 224 power poles, four water projects, seven flood walls, two hospitals and three schools. Hundreds of houses were also damaged in different parts of the state.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning for Lohit, Changlang and Tirap districts on Wednesday (July 8, 2026). Lower Dibang Valley, Namsai and Tirap districts are also expected to experience similar conditions on Thursday (July 9, 2026). EOM
