Arundhati Choudhary (PTI Photo) NEW DELHI: The Indian boxing contingent produced a perfect five-on-five performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Wednesday, with Narender Berwal joining Ankush Yadav, Sakshi Choudhary, Arundhati Choudhary and Sachin Siwach in the semi-finals after a memorable day in Glasgow.The five wins ensured that every Indian boxer who entered the ring on Wednesday progressed to the last four, taking India’s total number of semi-finalists in boxing to nine.This feat has already surpassed India’s medal tally at Birmingham 2022, where the country finished with seven medals – three gold, one silver and three bronze.With nine semi-final berths, India are now assured of at least nine bronze medals in the Glasgow boxing competition.

Sakshi, Arundhati lead India’s winning start

The winning run started with Sakshi Choudhary, who produced a dominant performance against Northern Ireland’s Caitlin Fryers in the women’s 51kg quarter-final.Sakshi controlled the bout from the opening bell, using her range advantage and crisp combinations to keep Fryers at bay before securing a 5-0 unanimous decision win.“Her strategy was to fight from close quarters and she kept holding on. Mine was to box from a long distance, which is my forte,” Sakshi told PTI after the bout.The Irish boxer tried to unsettle Sakshi with aggressive attacks but the Indian remained composed, keeping his distance and responding with cleaner punches.Next, Arundhati Choudhary faced a tougher challenge against New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson in the women’s 70kg quarter-final. After a close contest, Arundhati held her nerve to secure a 3-1 victory and advance to the semi-finals.

Siwach, Ankush and Narender completed India’s perfect day

Former World Youth Champion Sachin Siwach continued India’s strong show by getting the better of Botswana’s Treasure Moremi in the men’s 60kg quarter-finals.The world No.5 Indian produced a composed performance as she won the match 5-0 by unanimous decision after dominating all five judges’ scores.In the men’s 80kg quarter-finals, Ankush Yadav extended India’s winning streak with another commanding performance. Last year’s silver medalist at the World Boxing Cup final defeated Seychelles’ Jade Micock 5-0 to book his place in the semi-finals.Ankush’s speed, movement and excellent combinations proved too much for his opponent as he maintained control throughout the bout.The last Indian boxer to complete a five-for-five run was Narender Berwal, who edged past Samoa’s Michael Sek in a dramatic men’s 90+kg quarter-final.In a match full of referee interference and two-point deductions against the Indian, Berwal showed resilience. He forced a standing count twice, including in the decisive final round, to tie Sek 3-2 on a split decision.With nine boxers now assured of medals, India have already created history in Glasgow.
