Five Municipal Corporations in Bengaluru have launched ‘One Ward’ initiative to address civic issues
The Bengaluru Municipal Corporation on Sunday formally launched the ‘Ward One’ initiative launched on the directives of Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda to address micro-level issues at the ward level.
Mr. Gowda symbolically launched the initiative on Saturday at Silk Board Junction, which comes under South City Corporation. On Sunday, all five companies began work based on previously prepared checklists.
Central City Corporation started the drive near MG Road while West City Corporation covered Malleswaram and Sadashivanagar. Among other things, the work started included the improvement of sidewalks, the repair of public lighting, the pruning of trees and the dredging of sewers.
However, the companies were directed to develop micro-level plans focusing on major intersections.
These plans should prioritize improving traffic flow and pedestrian infrastructure. Since the initiative was announced, several citizens have demanded that corporations focus on cleaning up fiber optic cables from sidewalks and other public places.
Meanwhile, the five corporations have jointly identified 43 departments where work should be started on priority. Checklists detailing issues specific to each department were also prepared. Based on these checklists, civic workers and officials began work.
