Five Indian nationals rescued after missile hits tanker in Strait of Hormuz

Five Indian nationals were rescued after a Kuwaiti-flagged tanker was hit by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the Indian mission in Oman said on Saturday (Oct 3, 2026).

Earlier today, the mission coordinated the rescue of five Indian nationals on board the Kuwaiti-flagged tanker MT Kazimah III, which was hit by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. All the 5 Indian nationals were safely moved ashore. We thank the Omani authorities for their continued support and assistance.

In a post on X, the Indian embassy said it coordinated the rescue of five Indians on board the MT Kazimah III, with all of them brought safely to shore.

She thanked the Omani authorities for their continued support and assistance in the rescue operation.

The mission did not provide further details on the incident, which occurred against a backdrop of heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf region.

Several commercial vessels with Indian sailors on board have come under attack amid escalating tensions in West Asia.

The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow sea passage that connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
