Five feared drowned in Tungabhadra in Mantralayam in AP
Five persons were feared drowned in the Tungabhadra river near Mantralayam on Saturday.
According to the police, a group of ten members, all relatives, had visited Mantralayam to attend a family function and perform a ritual. After the ritual, six members of the group entered the river to bathe.
They misjudged the depth of the water and drowned. When the relatives raised the alarm, the police rushed to the spot. A rescue operation was started with the help of experienced swimmers and fishermen. Rescue work continued until Saturday night.
Those who went missing were identified as Satish and Yuvan Chandra from Hyderabad, Raghavendra and Dhanu from Mantralayam and Sandhya from Uravakonda in Anantapur district.
According to the police, Aparna from Adoni managed to get out of the water.
