
Five people were killed and four others injured in two separate road accidents in East Godavari and Chittoor districts on Sunday.
In East Godavari district, three people died on the spot after a car hit the median lane, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with another vehicle on the national highway near Yernagudem village under Devarapalli police limits. The deceased have been identified as S. Satyanarayana and Maamidala Narayana Murthy of Kakinada and Mohammad Sayyad of Eluru district. The accident occurred when a car traveling from Kakinada towards Vijayawada went out of control, Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore said. At least six people were traveling in the car. The bodies were taken to Kovvur Government Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered.
In Chittoor district, two people were killed and four others injured after a car rammed into the back of a truck near the Kothakota flyover in Puthalapattu in the wee hours of Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Sathish, 50, and his wife Bhagyalakshmi, 45, residents of Karnataka’s Mandya district. The family was traveling to Tirumala when the driver reportedly felt drowsy, leading to the accident, police said.
The impact threw two passengers from the vehicle. Four others, including three children Mahalakshmi, 12, Pavani, 10, Alsoara, 4, and a relative Shasank, 23, sustained minor injuries and were taken to a government hospital in Chittoor. The police have registered the case and are investigating.
