Five boys from the Juvenile Welfare and Correction Center in Saidabad have so far filed complaints of sexual assault against a superior, with police expecting more petitions in the coming days.
Accused Rahman, 27, who has been employed at a juvenile home for the past six years, was arrested on October 15 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (PoCSO) Act and other sections of the BNS Act. He is accused of sexually assaulting minors in the care of a state facility.
The attack first came to light after the mother of the 10-year-old boy lodged a complaint with the Saidabad police. The child, who had gone home for the Dasara holidays, refused to return to the center and later disclosed the abuse to her mother. Following a complaint, police launched an investigation that has since prompted more victims to come forward. A Saidabad police officer said five boys have now given statements detailing similar experiences of abuse. “We are verifying their accounts and expect more petitions to be filed,” the officer said.
