Five persons involved in illegal sales of pain tablets were arrested by the city police Gudiyatham in the village of Perumbadi here on Sunday.
The police said the arrested persons were identified as B. Ayyappan, 27, R. Naveen Kumar, 20, S. Devan, 25, G. Mohan, 23 and K. Baskaran, 22.
At the command of the police director (SP) A. Myilvagannan patrolled special police teams in the section when they captured the gang near the open land in the village.
The police checked them and found 850 tablets of Tapentadol-Silent painkiller prescribed for postprising pain, but it was often found to be abused. The police also found 50 syringes. The investigation revealed that the gang sold tablets for youth and students in this area. The police confiscated tablets, syringes and two -round rounds.
The case was registered according to Section 123 Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit (BNS) and Section 8 (a). (C) read with 20 (b) (ii) (a) A) of the Act on Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances. The arrested persons were submitted in a central prison in Vellore. The probe is running.
