A female trainer sustained serious injuries after she was stabbed at a gym in Parassala on Monday. The attacker later allegedly attempted suicide by ingesting rat poison.
Police identified the victim as Kavya, who worked at a gym in Plamoottukada near Parassala. She suffered stab wounds to her chest and the back of her head. The incident took place around 10:00 am
According to the police, the accused Ashwanth, a native of Parassala, had come to the gym on a two-wheeler. He entered the compound and attacked Kavya with a sharp weapon when no one was inside.
Kavya was later found lying in a pool of blood by a group of political workers who had come to the gym as part of election campaign activities. They immediately alerted the police and arranged for an ambulance to take her to a nearby hospital. He is being treated for serious injuries after being admitted to the intensive care unit.
Police took Ashwanth into custody from the gym premises. During questioning, he allegedly told police that he had ingested rat poison in an attempt to take his own life. He was subsequently taken to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The Parasala police have launched an investigation to ascertain the motive behind the attack, including any previous enmity between the accused and the victim.
