First time in the top 10! Shreyas Iyer jumps 18 places in the T20I rankings after his maiden century

Shreyas Iyer (Image credit: BCCI) NEW DELHI: India captain Shreyas Iyer made a stunning leap into the top ten of the ICC T20I batting rankings after his breathtaking first century, while Axar Patel made it to the elite list after a dramatic rise in the last update.Iyer jumped 18 places to seventh in the T20I batting rankings after smashing an unbeaten 102 off just 43 balls in India’s series opener against West Indies in Lucknow. The century, the first of his T20I career, took the Indian skipper into the top 10 for the first time.The 31-year-old’s explosive knock also strengthened India’s presence at the top end of the batting charts of the shortest format. India now have four players in the top 10, with Ishan Kishan at No.1, Abhishek Sharma at No.2, Iyer at No.7 and Tilak Varma at No.10.Iyer’s rise is among the biggest movements in the latest rankings and comes after an innings that underlined his ability to dominate the international attack from the outset.

Axar Patel joins Shreyas Iyer in the top 10

Iyer is not the only Indian to make a major breakthrough in the latest rankings. All-rounder Axar Patel has climbed 16 places to seventh among T20I bowlers to join the top 10 after a strong week for India’s spin department.There has also been a big change at the very top of the bowling rankings. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has been given the No. 1 spot, replacing Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed.Bangladeshi Nasum Ahmed climbed three places to eighth, while team-mate Mahedi Hasan made an even bigger jump to move up 10 places to ninth. The changes mean there are three new entrants in the top 10 in a busy update for T20I bowlers.West Indies batsman Sherfane Rutherford, who smashed a half-century in the series opener against India, was also rewarded, moving up 10 places to 37th in the batting charts.

Shubman Gill extends ODI reign

There have also been significant moves in the ODI rankings, with India’s Shubman Gill extending his lead at the top of the batting charts.Gill’s unbeaten 223 in the second ODI against West Indies in Guwahati, which helped India clinch the series, took him to 841 rating points.West Indies captain Shai Hope moved up two places to sixth after his 162 in the series finale, while India’s KL Rahul jumped seven places to joint 10th.West Indies left-hander Amir Jangoo made one of the biggest jumps in the list, slipping outside the top 100 to 55th.Among ODI bowlers, West Indies pacer Jayden Seales has climbed 12 places to 10th and achieved a new career high after taking four wickets in the series against India.US veteran Milind Kumar also achieved a career best, moving up four places to tenth among ODI all-rounders after his recent century against the UAE in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League.
