First phase of Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum in Wayanad to be completed by November, says Minister
Construction of the Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum at Sugandhagiri in Wayanad is progressing steadily, with the first phase expected to be ready for inauguration in mid-November 2026, Agriculture Minister T. Siddique said.
He spoke after reviewing the work on Sunday. The museum, located on a 10-acre site, has completed around 60% of the construction work in its first phase, Mr. Siddique said.
Intended as a center for the preservation and presentation of the history and heritage of the tribal communities of Kerala, the museum will document the culture, traditions and indigenous knowledge systems of the tribal people of Wayanad and other parts of the state. It will also highlight the role played by tribal communities in India’s freedom struggle.
According to officials, detailed research by experts has already documented the lives and contributions of more than 120 tribal freedom fighters from Wayanad, including several whose role in the freedom movement has remained largely unknown.
The project is being implemented by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with the Government of Kerala. The Kerala Institute for Research, Training and Development Studies of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (KIRTADS) is overseeing the implementation of the project on behalf of the state government.
