Director General of Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defense on Friday (October 24) conducted a detailed inspection of a high-rise residential building in Hyderabad to assess fire infrastructure and preparedness measures.
During the inspection, CEO Vikram Singh Mann inspected key fire protection systems such as fire pumps, sprinkler mechanisms, smoke detectors, manual fire detectors and emergency exits. While the systems in place were deemed satisfactory, officials recommended several additional steps to further improve the safety of residents in the event of an emergency.
Key suggestions included installing closed-circuit cameras in fire pump rooms with real-time recording linked to the fire command centre, providing automated external defibrillators in strategic locations and training staff to use them effectively. It was also recommended to integrate the building management system with the fire command to ensure centralized monitoring and faster response to emergencies.
Officials also recommended placing clear and visible signage next to each manual call point, sealing horizontal and vertical service openings with certified fire-resistant materials, and ensuring that emergency exits remain unobstructed and lit at all times.
The Director General emphasized the importance of conducting regular evacuation drills and practical training in the use of firefighting first aid equipment. Such drills, he said, help residents understand evacuation routes, safety procedures and initial firefighting methods, which can be key to minimizing loss of life and property.
The fire dispatch center is still open 24/7 and citizens are advised to report any fires on 101, 112 or 9949991101.
Vikram Singh Mann, IPS, Director General of Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defense Department said that the implementation of these measures would substantially increase the level of security and preparedness of high-rise residential complexes across the city.
