At least 20 sheds belonging to migrant workers from West Bengal were gutted in a fire that broke out in the early hours of April 28 at Somasundarpalya, under Bandepalya police station in Bengaluru.
No one was injured as most of the workers returned to their hometowns to vote, leaving a few women and children behind. Those present managed to flee to safety, but watched helplessly as their belongings were reduced to ashes. Affected families made a living by collecting rags and sorting garbage.
