A houseboat carrying guests caught fire in Punnamada on Sunday (November 23, 2025) afternoon, officials said.
Since the ship was close to shore, guests were quickly evacuated to safety and no one was injured, Fire and Rescue officials added.
The incident took place around 1:00 pm when food was being prepared for the guests.
“The fire was probably caused by some carelessness in cooking, which also led to the bursting of a gas cylinder in the kitchen,” a fire official said.
The fire destroyed the houseboat’s kitchen and bedroom, he added.
Two fire brigades were sent along the road and a fire boat was deployed to extinguish the fire.
The fire took approximately one and a half hours to extinguish, the official said.
