Fire breaks out at Keralam service center in Kochi; no one hurt
A fire broke out at a car repair shop at Thevara in Kochi on Tuesday, causing extensive damage to the moving equipment. A major tragedy was averted as workers on site immediately responded to the fire and moved to safety. No one was injured.
The incident took place at a service center on Varavukattil Lane in Thevara around 11 am. The fire started when workers were dismantling the steel frames of the equipment as part of a move. Sparks from the welding machines fell into a pile of trash, including cans containing the remains of flammable liquids such as paint thinners and lubricants, sparking a fire and minor explosions, according to officials at the Club Road fire station.
Workers at the site tried to extinguish the fire using available fire extinguishers, although they were unable to completely stop the flames. Three units of the Fire and Rescue Service from Club Road and Gandhi Nagar stations rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire by noon.
