NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer and actor Yograj Singh has been booked in Chandigarh for allegedly making derogatory remarks against women in a viral clip from a web series, news agency ANI reported on Thursday.According to police sources quoted by ANI, the FIR was registered at Sector 36 Police Station in Chandigarh under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act and Section 62A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.Police said the case was filed after the clip went viral on social media and led to criticism and calls for action over the alleged remarks. Further investigation is underway. The clip is said to be from an episode of the Hindi web series Lukkhe. In the scene, Yograj Singh’s character is shown at a police station talking to officers before making alleged remarks about women.Yograj, who is Yuvraj Singh’s father, has previously been involved in controversies over his public comments.Earlier this year in March, Yograj made another controversial statement when he spoke about players’ retirement decisions and the role of women in the family.Speaking to InsideSport, he said: “The ladies of the house, your wives, start training, they tell you it’s time to retire, it’s time to take care of the family, the kids, let’s enjoy the kids.”“So I believe that women should not be among the legendary prospects of players, fakir aur players yeh dono ka koi dharam nahi hai, warg nahi hai, it belongs to god,” said Yograj. In the same interaction, Yograj also commented on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma amid discussions on retirement and age in cricket. Both Kohli and Rohit have retired from T20Is and Tests and now play only ODI cricket. They retired from T20Is after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup and quit Test cricket last year.“Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are young cricketers and they want to quit. Laanat hai zindagi bhar. Let the world know that you are the best, that you are indispensable. Even if you are 50 years old and you are still scoring 200, no one will drop you. So this age factor is very funny in this country,” said Yograj.
