
Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered cases against Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and another person for allegedly spreading distorted narratives using digital platforms to create public unrest and social disharmony, an official statement said.
Police said that acting on credible information about the spread of “false, fictitious and misleading content” on digital and social media platformsPTI reported that cases were registered against Mehdi and former Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu, allegedly with the intention of creating fear, disturbing public order and instigating illegal activities.

“The content in question, prima facie, reflects the dissemination of distorted narratives and unverified information capable of causing public unrest and social disharmony. Such deliberate attempts to spread disinformation pose a serious threat to peace, security and overall stability,” the statement said.
Cases were registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and an investigation was initiated.
The statement reiterated Srinagar Police’s strong commitment to maintain public peace and law and order and advised citizens to verify information from official and trusted sources before sharing content online. She asked people to refrain from spreading unverified material that may disturb the harmony in the village or public order.
“Further legal action will follow in accordance with the law,” the statement added.

The action came after National Conference (NC) Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, said his security department had been downgraded and said “such foolish acts” would not stop him from calling for “atrocities on people”.
Mehdi said that as a citizen of this country, he will exercise his rights “to oppose your atrocities, your violation of laws, freedom and democracy given to us by the constitution, to the last drop of my blood.”
“Some fools Jammu and Kashmir Police and the administration thinks that by withdrawing/downgrading my security detail and suspending my facebook account it will prevent me from calling out their atrocities. It’s laughable!” said the NC leader on X.

“My father was martyred for standing up for his people. That fascinates me. That’s my direction,” he said.
Former Srinagar city mayor Junaid Azim Mattu also claimed that his security was withdrawn for his statements about Iran and the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli attack.
“For my statements about Iran and the martyrdom of Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, and for speaking out against the moral abdication and deafening silence of the BJP-led government on the illegitimate barbaric attack on Iran by the US and Israel – my security has just been virtually revoked with immediate effect. A measure to silence me,” he told Matt on X.
Sharp attack on PM Modi
Mehdi launched a scathing attack on Tuesday Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly ignoring Iran in dealing with the monarchies in the Persian Gulf, where US military bases are located, during the ongoing military escalation in West Asia.

Mehdi lamented that while efforts have been made by Prime Minister Modi to reach out to the “kings and princesses of the region” — the countries where US bases are located — there has been no meaningful engagement with Iran following recent attacks by the US and Israel that also resulted in deaths. “He talks tirelessly to the kings and princesses of the region, whose pieces of soulless luxury have suffered minor scratches,” the MP said, in an apparent allusion to diplomatic contact with the Gulf states. Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the development of the situation with the leaders of Oman, Kuwait and Qatar.
