FIR against 4 people for littering at a cleared black spot in Bengaluru

Police have registered an FIR against four persons for allegedly dumping garbage on the black spot, which has already been cleaned and beautified by the Bengaluru North City Corporation.

According to a complaint filed by Shwetha Charanraj, Deputy General Manager, Sarvajnanagar Division, Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), the incident took place on July 16 at a black waste site on 7th Main Road, Banaswadi, Ward No. 27, Sarvajnanagar Division.

The black spot was recently cleaned and beautified as part of the corporation’s drive to eliminate black spots on garbage. After the site was restored, awareness programs were conducted among the residents to discourage indiscriminate dumping and ward guards were deployed to monitor the area and take action against encroachers.

During a patrol on July 16, detectives allegedly caught four individuals throwing trash at the site. When they tried to impose penalties as per the prescribed rules, the accused allegedly refused to pay fines and continued to dump waste at the site, causing public disturbances and affecting sanitation.

The accused have been identified as Yash, a resident of RM Nagar, Banaswadi; Mani, a resident of KR Puram; Rudra, a resident of Sai Layout, and Manu, a resident of Balappa Layout.

Acting on the complaint, the Banaswadi police registered a case under Section 280 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 (Creating an atmosphere injurious to health) and started an investigation.

Officials said strict legal action will continue to be taken against those who dump waste at permanently removed and beautified waste sites, litter in public places or otherwise violate solid waste management rules in the northern city corporation’s jurisdiction.
