
South Africa’s captain Temba Bavum said he heard that some of the Australian players were using the word “choke” to hit the team on Saturday 14th June. Proteas beat Aussies with five goals End their waiting for the title of ICC.
Fans have long trolls South Africa called “Chokers” because of their inability to win a big game. Many of them felt that Australia still had a chance to aim what it turned out as the last day of the test. Bavum said after victory that one of the Australian players said they could still get out, even though they needed 69 runs to win 4 days, the remaining 8 goals.
“While we launched, we heard Aussies using this feared word, choke,” said South Africa captain Temba Bavum BBC test Match Special.
“The brand that we are the chokery that appeared this morning,” Bavuma said after victory. “One of their players threw the fact that we could still get out … I certainly heard it.”
Bavuma was happy that South Africa was able to overcome the line in the big finals and better glue their names in the books of records.
“It’s been years since we overcome the finals, we were improved in history. Now we’re part of something that has never happened.”
“It would be great if I never heard the word”
Aiden Markram, Who was the player of the match for his fantastic hundreds, He said he hopes that the word Surnič will never get used to South Africa. Markram said that to win the victory and the removal of the “Chokers” brand was a great success for the team.
“It would be great if I never heard the word (choke), that’s certain,” Markram said.
“To do it and get rid of it, it’s a big thing for this team.”
South Africa became the third team with the victory won the WTC title after New Zealand and Australia.
