FIFA to present NBA-style rings to World Cup winners

For the first time in the history of the tournament, FIFA will introduce NBA-style championship rings to the winners of the FIFA World Cup, with the winning team in Sunday’s final set to receive a bespoke memento alongside the iconic trophy and gold medals.

The governing body has announced that the champions of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will become the first team to receive championship rings, bringing one of the most revered traditions of American sport to soccer’s biggest tournament.

Each ring will be part of a strictly limited edition of 2,026 individually numbered pieces, paying tribute to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Thirty rings will be reserved for the winning team, while the remaining 1,996 will be made available to fans worldwide as official licensed merchandise.

One side of the ring will feature the FIFA World Cup trophy, while the other will be customized to reflect the identity of the winning nation. Each ring will be individually numbered, customized and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Immediately following the final, the winning captain and head coach will receive interim championship rings during the celebration. FIFA will later produce customized versions for all 30 recipients before officially presenting them, ensuring each winner receives a personalized memento of their triumph.

The introduction of championship rings is the first time FIFA has adopted a tradition long associated with major North American sports such as the NBA, NFL and MLB, where commemorative rings are awarded to winning teams in addition to trophies.

The final of the FIFA World Cup will be played on Sunday, July 19 at the New Jersey Stadium in New York, where defending champions Argentina will face Spain for the title. Argentina is bidding to retain the World Cup and become only the third country in the history of the tournament to successfully defend the trophy.
